The acclaimed Michelin Guide finally arrived in Mexico in 2024, awarding more than 150 restaurants across the country, with a total of 18 Michelin Stars. In the state of Quintana Roo, three establishments received a Star1, after demonstrating mastery of culinary techniques and achieving harmony of flavors in their dishes.
The destination of Tulum, which has grown exponentially in recent years, stood out with 9 restaurants recommended by the Michelin Guide2. While they did not receive Stars this time, the recommendations are an indicator that, in the future, these restaurants could earn such recognition.
A positive impact on tourism is expected
With the recent Stars awarded to restaurants in Quintana Roo, experts in the field state3 that this could result in an increase of up to 12% in the tourism sector.
Taking advantage of the boom in gastronomic recognition in the Mexican Caribbean, the National Chamber of Restaurants and Seasoned Food (Canirac) is already preparing a promotional campaign4 to increase the influx of gastronomic tourism in destinations such as Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and other cities in Quintana Roo.
In addition to the three Michelin Stars awarded in Quintana Roo, the Michelin Guide recommended a total of 13 restaurants, of which 9 are in Tulum:
